Which Shopify plan to pick in India, worked out from your prepaid revenue.

Basic, Grow or Advanced comes down to one number: how much you take through a payment gateway each month. This guide works out the break-even points from Shopify's India prices.

The short version

On yearly billing, Grow is the best Shopify plan for an Indian store once prepaid orders pass ₹4.1 lakh a month, and Basic is cheaper below that. Shopify Payments does not operate in India, so Shopify adds its own fee to every gateway payment: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced. Cash on delivery is a manual payment with no Shopify fee, so compare plans on prepaid revenue only. Advanced beats Grow on fees above about ₹42.7 lakh of prepaid sales a month. Below that, pay for it only if you need more than 5 staff accounts or live carrier rates at checkout.

What each Shopify plan costs in India today

Shopify's India pricing page lists four plans in rupees: Basic at ₹1,499 a month, Grow at ₹5,599 and Advanced at ₹22,680 on yearly billing, with Plus from ₹1,75,000. The price is only half the cost. Each plan also sets the fee Shopify takes on payments made through a third-party gateway, and in India every gateway is third-party.

These are the figures on Shopify's India pricing page as of 2 November 2026:

PlanBilled yearly, per monthBilled monthlyShopify fee on gateway paymentsStaff accounts
Basic₹1,499₹1,9942%None beyond the owner
Grow₹5,599₹7,4471%Up to 5
Advanced₹22,680₹30,1640.6%Up to 15
PlusFrom ₹1,75,000 on a 1 or 3 year termNot listed0.2%Unlimited

All four plans include the same 200+ reports with custom analytics, and selling abroad with Shopify Markets. Basic, Grow and Advanced each allow 10 inventory locations; Plus allows 200. Advanced is the only plan below Plus that lists live third-party shipping rates at checkout. New stores get 3 days free, then ₹20 a month for the first 3 months on most plans.

Why Indian stores pay Shopify a fee on every prepaid order

Shopify Payments, the in-house processor that removes Shopify's transaction fee, does not operate in India. India is not on Shopify's list of Shopify Payments countries, so an Indian store has to use a third-party provider such as Razorpay.

Shopify's help page on third-party payment providers says the fee applies to all transactions processed through third-party and alternate gateways. That is the 2%, 1% or 0.6% in the table, charged by Shopify on top of whatever the gateway charges. The pricing page also notes that some features, such as local payment methods and local currency prices, need Shopify Payments, so they are out of reach for Indian stores on any plan.

The gateway's own fee is separate and does not change with your Shopify plan. Razorpay's standard rate card lists 2% on domestic cards, UPI, netbanking and wallets, 2.15% on corporate cards, up to 3% on international cards, and 18% GST on its fee. A ₹1,000 prepaid order on Basic therefore costs ₹43.60 in payment fees: ₹20 to Shopify, ₹20 to Razorpay and ₹3.60 GST on Razorpay's share. On Grow the same order costs ₹33.60, and on Advanced ₹29.60.

Cash on delivery orders carry no Shopify fee

COD is a manual payment method in Shopify, and Shopify's help page on manual payments states that you are not charged third-party transaction fees for them. For an Indian store, that turns the plan decision into a question about prepaid revenue only.

This is where most plan comparisons go wrong. They set your total sales against the fee, which overstates the saving from upgrading by however much of your revenue arrives as cash.

Take a store doing ₹50 lakh a month with 40% COD. Its gateway revenue is ₹30 lakh. On yearly billing, Grow costs ₹5,599 plus 1% of ₹30 lakh, which is ₹35,599. Advanced costs ₹22,680 plus 0.6% of ₹30 lakh, which is ₹40,680. Grow is ₹5,081 a month cheaper, even though the store's total sales sit above the point where Advanced would win if every order were prepaid.

To find your own figure, export recent orders from Orders in the Shopify admin, remove the orders paid by cash on delivery or another manual method, and add up the rest. Use three months rather than one, so a sale month does not skew the answer. If a checkout or COD app records some orders through a gateway instead of as a manual payment, count those as prepaid, because Shopify's fee applies to anything that passes through a gateway.

The break-even points between plans

On yearly billing, Grow becomes cheaper than Basic at ₹4.1 lakh of prepaid revenue a month, and Advanced becomes cheaper than Grow at about ₹42.7 lakh. On monthly billing the points are higher: about ₹5.45 lakh and ₹56.8 lakh.

The arithmetic is the difference in plan price divided by the difference in fee rate. Grow costs ₹4,100 a month more than Basic on yearly billing and charges 1 percentage point less, so it pays for itself once 1% of your prepaid revenue exceeds ₹4,100. That happens at ₹4,10,000. Advanced costs ₹17,081 more than Grow and saves 0.4 points, so it needs ₹42,70,250 of prepaid revenue to break even.

MovePrepaid revenue a month, yearly billingPrepaid revenue a month, monthly billing
Basic to Grow₹4,10,000₹5,45,300
Grow to Advanced₹42,70,250₹56,79,250
Advanced to PlusAbout ₹3.8 croreAbout ₹3.6 crore

Plus is listed from ₹1,75,000 a month with a 0.2% fee, so its row is an estimate against the starting price. Stores do not move to Plus to save on transaction fees; the reasons are operational, and we cover them in when to upgrade to Shopify Plus.

The pricing page does not say whether its rupee prices include GST, so budget for tax on top until your first bill confirms it. If the same tax applies to the plan price and the transaction fees, it scales both sides equally and the break-even points stay where they are.

Three stores, worked through

Your monthly cost on any plan is the plan price plus the fee rate times your prepaid revenue. These three examples use yearly billing and leave out tax and the gateway's own fee, which is the same on every plan.

A new store at ₹3 lakh a month, half COD

Prepaid revenue is ₹1.5 lakh. Basic costs ₹1,499 plus ₹3,000 in fees, ₹4,499 in total. Grow costs ₹5,599 plus ₹1,500, ₹7,099 in total. Basic is ₹2,600 a month cheaper. Stay on Basic until prepaid revenue passes ₹4.1 lakh, or until a second person needs their own admin login.

A growing brand at ₹15 lakh a month, 40% COD

Prepaid revenue is ₹9 lakh. Basic costs ₹1,499 plus ₹18,000, ₹19,499. Grow costs ₹5,599 plus ₹9,000, ₹14,599. Advanced costs ₹22,680 plus ₹5,400, ₹28,080. Grow wins by ₹4,900 a month over Basic, ₹58,800 a year. Stores in this band often stay on Basic too long, because the plan price looks cheap and the fee line on the bill is easy to miss.

An established brand at ₹80 lakh a month, 25% COD

Prepaid revenue is ₹60 lakh. Grow costs ₹5,599 plus ₹60,000, ₹65,599. Advanced costs ₹22,680 plus ₹36,000, ₹58,680. Advanced saves ₹6,919 a month, ₹83,028 a year.

As COD falls, prepaid revenue rises and the case for a lower-fee plan gets stronger. If you are moving buyers to prepaid, our guide on cutting COD returns and RTO covers how, and it is worth running this check again once the mix has shifted.

When to upgrade for features rather than fees

Upgrade before the fee break-even when the plan blocks how your team works. Basic has no staff accounts beyond the owner, Grow stops at 5, and only Advanced lists live carrier rates at checkout.

  • Staff logins. Sharing the owner's login is a security risk and leaves no record of who changed what. If a second person needs the admin, Grow's 5 accounts cost ₹4,100 a month more than Basic on yearly billing.
  • More than 5 people. Support, warehouse and marketing staff add up quickly. Advanced allows 15, and Plus has no limit.
  • Live third-party shipping rates. If you want checkout to quote rates calculated by a courier or shipping aggregator, Advanced is the first plan that lists it. If you charge flat or free shipping, you do not need it.
  • Locations. Basic, Grow and Advanced all allow 10 inventory locations, so extra warehouses alone are rarely a reason to move.

Reports do not separate the plans. The India pricing page lists the same 200+ reports and custom analytics on Basic, Grow and Advanced, so reporting is not a reason to pay for Advanced.

Yearly or monthly billing

Yearly billing costs about 25% less on every plan: ₹5,940 a year saved on Basic, ₹22,176 on Grow and ₹89,808 on Advanced. Pay yearly once you are sure of the tier.

A new store does not know its prepaid mix yet. Start monthly, run two or three months of real orders, work out your prepaid figure and then commit. A store already past ₹4.1 lakh of prepaid revenue can go straight to Grow on yearly billing. A store between ₹40 lakh and ₹60 lakh of prepaid revenue should look at its growth: if prepaid sales will clear ₹42.7 lakh a month for most of the coming year, Advanced on yearly billing is the cheaper commitment.

What the plan price leaves out

For most Indian stores the plan is the smaller part of what Shopify costs to run each month. Gateway fees and apps usually add more than the subscription.

  • Gateway fees. About 2.36% of prepaid revenue at Razorpay's standard rate including GST, on every plan. Razorpay offers custom pricing to businesses processing over ₹5 lakh a month, so ask for a quote once you pass that.
  • Apps. Reviews, subscriptions, COD verification, WhatsApp and loyalty apps are each billed separately on top of the plan.
  • Theme. Free themes cost nothing, Theme Store themes are a one-off purchase, and custom work is quoted separately.
  • Tax. Add your tax details to the billing profile under Settings, Billing, and ask your accountant how tax on Shopify's bills is treated for input credit.

Before you change plans to save money, run an app audit. Cancelling apps nobody uses is a saving you keep on any plan.

How to check you are on the right plan

Check once a quarter and before any yearly renewal. All it needs is an order export and the break-even table above.

  1. Export the last three months of orders from Orders in the admin.
  2. Remove orders paid by cash on delivery or another manual method.
  3. Divide what remains by three for a monthly prepaid figure.
  4. Compare it with the break-even table for your billing cycle.
  5. Cross-check it against the transaction fees on your recent Shopify bills, under Settings, Billing.
  6. If the numbers say so, change plan under Settings, Plan.

If you are planning a new store, settle the plan from projected prepaid revenue before launch, alongside the theme and app budget. Our Shopify development page covers how we build and launch stores. If you want us to run these numbers on your own orders, you can reach us through the contact page.

Questions

Which Shopify plan is best for a new store in India?

Basic, in most cases. It costs ₹1,499 a month on yearly billing or ₹1,994 billed monthly, and its 2% fee on prepaid orders only costs more than Grow's higher price once prepaid revenue passes about ₹4.1 lakh a month. Move to Grow earlier if anyone besides the owner needs to log in to the admin, because Basic includes no additional staff accounts. Most plans start at ₹20 a month for the first 3 months.

How much does Shopify cost each month in India?

On yearly billing, Basic is ₹1,499 a month, Grow ₹5,599 and Advanced ₹22,680. Billed monthly, they are ₹1,994, ₹7,447 and ₹30,164. Plus starts at ₹1,75,000 a month. On top of the plan, Shopify charges 2%, 1% or 0.6% on payments through a third-party gateway such as Razorpay, the gateway charges its own fee, and apps are billed separately. Shopify's pricing page does not state whether the rupee prices include GST.

Does Shopify charge a transaction fee on COD orders?

No. Cash on delivery is a manual payment method, and Shopify states that manual payments carry no third-party transaction fees. The fee applies only to payments processed through a third-party or alternate gateway. That is why Indian stores should compare plans on prepaid revenue rather than total sales. If a checkout app routes COD orders through a gateway, check how they appear on your Shopify bill.

Is Shopify Payments available in India?

No. India is not on Shopify's list of countries where Shopify Payments operates, so Indian stores use a third-party provider such as Razorpay. Every plan therefore carries a Shopify fee on gateway payments: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Features that depend on Shopify Payments, such as some local payment methods and local currency prices, are not available either.

Is the Shopify Advanced plan worth it in India?

On fees alone, only above about ₹42.7 lakh of prepaid revenue a month on yearly billing, or ₹56.8 lakh on monthly billing. Below that, Grow is cheaper. Advanced is worth paying for earlier if you need more than 5 staff accounts, since it allows 15, or live third-party shipping rates at checkout, which Grow does not list. Reports are the same on every plan.

What are Shopify's per month charges with Razorpay?

Add the plan price to two percentages of your prepaid revenue. Shopify takes 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow or 0.6% on Advanced, and Razorpay's standard rate is 2% plus 18% GST on its fee. A store on Grow with ₹10 lakh of prepaid sales pays ₹5,599 for the plan, ₹10,000 to Shopify and ₹23,600 to Razorpay, ₹39,199 in total before apps and any tax on the Shopify bill.
